Learn to fly cast

Most fly casting gets taught as a one-size-fits-all fix, built to get everyone through the basics, not to make anyone a better angler.

No two casts are the same, because no two anglers are the same. Your mechanics, your timing, your habits, and the fishing you’re chasing all shape your cast. So every lesson here is built around you and the angler you’re working to become.

In person in Charleston or remote from anywhere in the world.

● Why The Ditch School of Fishing

A Decade of Experience

Ten years of watching casts fail. I’ve spent a decade on the back of the boat watching every kind of cast come through: self-taught, over-taught, and everything in between. I know what breaks at 40 feet with the wind in your face and I know how to fix it.

Built for the shot that counts. Fast, accurate, and quiet, off a moving boat with one or two false casts. The lawn is where we practice. Fishing is the point.

One coach, small numbers. This isn’t a generic lesson. You’ll have the same coach and the same eyes on your cast every time, whether we’re on the lawn together or you’re sending video from across the country.

Video doesn’t lie. In person or remote, we film everything and slow it down. You’ll see exactly what’s happening from your arm through the rod to the line. Feeling your cast is one thing. Seeing it is how you fix it and how you keep refining it.

Kids through lifers. From a 10-year-old’s first loop to anyone who’s been teaching themselves since 1978.

Remote Coaching

Monthly casting coaching wherever you live. You film your cast and send it through OnForm. I send it back broken down frame by frame, with voice notes, drawn lines and the drills to fix it.

Send as many videos as you want during the month. Plan on 30 minutes to an hour of practice, twice a week. The more you put in, the faster it comes.

How remote works

Sign up. You get an invite to OnForm, a free video app for your phone.

Film a baseline. Five casts from the side and five from behind. I’ll send you exactly how to set the phone up.

Get the breakdown. Slow motion, side-by-side comparisons, and a voice walkthrough of what’s happening and why. You’ll get the one or two fixes that matter most, not twenty.

Practice. 30–60 minutes, twice a week, on the drills I assign. A yard, a park, or a parking lot all work.

Send it again. As often as you want. We build month over month, from the loop to distance, wind, accuracy, and presentation.

Good for: anglers prepping for a destination trip, people with no casting instructor nearby, and anyone who’s been stuck at the same distance for years.

Private Lessons

One hour, one coach, and nobody else’s cast to worry about. It’s good before a big trip or after a bad one.

Every lesson is filmed. We slow it down on the spot so you can see what your arm, rod and line are actually doing. Then we fix what’s holding you back, starting with the issue that matters most.

You don’t leave with just a memory of what we worked on. After the lesson, you get your footage broken down in OnForm with voice notes, drawn lines, side-by-sides and the drills built for your cast. Two weeks later, send me a practice video and I’ll review it, so the fixes stick after you leave.

What’s included:

  • One hour of hands-on coaching

  • Your lesson filmed and broken down in slow motion

  • An OnForm video breakdown sent after the lesson

  • A personal drill plan built for your cast

  • A follow-up video review two weeks out

  • All gear provided, or bring your own setup
